General Motors (GM) will offer a new fuel option for the 2015 Chevy Silverado.
The automaker said on Thursday that the a compressed natural-gas capable models will be available for both HD2500 and HD3500 versions of the 2015 Chevy Silverado, Fox News notes.
2015 Chevy Silverado models with the compressed natural-gas system will be powered by a 6.0-liter V8 engine, which produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque when using gas gasoline. The engine delivers 301 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque while running a 2015 Chevy Silverado on compressed natural gas.
Given the lower price of compressed natural gas, compared to gasoline, owners of 2015 Chevy Silverado models running on natural gas could save more than $2,000 a year in fuel costs, though the option will likely substantially increase the purchase price of the heavy-duty pickup trucks.
Compressed natural-gas tanks and fuel systems on 2015 Chevy Silverado models are protected by full Chevy warranties.
GM stock was flat in Thursday morning trading. GM stock has gained more than 23% over the past year.
