5 Best Sectors to Watch This Week

This week, auto parts, consumer finance, e-commerce, biotechnology and life science are the best sectors on the Portfolio Grader[1] database.

Auto parts is thriving this week with 72% of stocks in the sector (18 out of 25) currently rating a “buy”. Magna International (MGA[2]), Lear Corporation (LEA[3]) and Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. (CPS[4]) are lifting the sector overall, each earning a high grade of A. Over the last 12 months, Magna International is the best performer in this sector, with a 166.6% increase.

With 71% of the sector’s stocks (10 out of 14) rating a “buy,” the consumer finance sector is one of the strongest. With overall grades of B, NetSpend Holdings (NTSP[5]), Portfolio Recovery Associates, Inc. (PRAA[6]) and Discover Financial Services (DFS[7]) are buoying the sector. Showing the most overall growth in its sector in the last 12 months, Discover Financial Services is the top stock, with a 129% increase.

E-commerce is excelling, with 68% of stocks in the sector (13 out of 19) rating a “buy”. Among e-commerce stocks, Liberty Interactive Corporation Ventures Series A (LVNTA[8]), Vipshop Holdings Ltd. Sponsored ADR (VIPS[9]) and Netflix, Inc. (NFLX[10]) are leading the way with A’s. Vipshop Holdings Ltd. Sponsored ADR is the best performer in this sector, with a 1725.5% increase in the last 12 months.

The biotechnology sector’s track record is proving one of the best with 68% of its stocks (56 out of 82) rating a “buy”. Out of the biotechnology stocks, Ligand Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (LGND[11]), Insys Therapeutics, Inc. (INSY[12]) and Gentium S.p.A. Sponsored ADR (GENT[13]) are out front with A’s. Insys Therapeutics, Inc. is the top stock in its sector, with a 444.8% increase from 12 months ago.

Life science stands out with 68% of the sector’s stocks (15 out of 22) rating a “buy”. Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR (WX[14]), Affymetrix, Inc. (AFFX[15]) and Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO[16]) are paving the way for the sector with A grades. The best performer in this sector is Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR, which saw its price rise 226.6% in the last 12 months.
