Amazon (AMZN[1]) released Amazon Coins last spring and it looks like the company is looking to make the virtual currency a widespread phenomenon.

Amazon Coins[2]The online retailer is now launching[3] Amazon Coins for Android devices including tablets and smartphones in the U.S., UK and Germany. When the virtual currency first came out, they only existed for Kindle Fire tablets.

Amazon Coins should make Android users more willing to spend as they are more resistant to spend using dollars compared to iOS users. The virtual currency can be used to buy apps[4] through the Amazon Appstore[5] and the more coins you buy, the bigger the discount is.

AMZN stock is down about 1.7% Wednesday.
