Amazon (AMZN) is planning on hiring an additional 2,500 workers across the country in order to keep up with demand.
The online retailer is adding the extra jobs in its fulfillment centers which involve “picking, packing and shipping customer orders.” The massive Amazon hiring applies to warehouses located in Chester, Va., Coffeyville, Kan., Columbia, S.C., Dupont, Wash., Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Petersburg, Va.
The company said that the median pay inside its fulfillment centers is 30% higher than the median retail wage, making their wage over $13 an hour. Amazon is also offering health care, paid vacation, quarterly bonuses, stock awards and matching retirement contributions to the workers.
The retailer added 20,000 full-time jobs Amazon even though half of them started as part-time positions.
AMZN stock is up close to 2% Thursday.
