Jason Collins’ No. 98 Brooklyn Nets jersey was the best-selling jersey in the NBA on Tuesday.
The NBA made Jason Collins’ jersey available after his historic game as the first openly-gay athlete in the NBA on Sunday. Sales of the jersey skyrocketed at both the NBA’s physical store in New York and online. Collins has yet to wear his own jersey as he signed up with the Nets on Sunday and played that night, reports USA Today.
Jason Collins has wore the No. 98 in the past when he played for the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards. He chose the number to honor a gay teenager that was murdered in 1998, USA Today notes.
Jason Collins’ first game with the Nets was against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center. His team won the game 108 to 102 and Collins’ had five fouls and two rebounds. He missed the only shot he took that game.
