Jason Collins became the first openly-gay NBA player with his return to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.
Sunday’s game had the Nets playing against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center. The Nets won the match 108 to 102. Jason Collins had five fouls during and two rebounds during the game. He missed the only shot he took. When asked about the game, Collins said that he is happy that his team won and that he plans on doing more charges in later games, reports ESPN.
“He is a guy that is going to be able to open up the door for athletes around the world,” Paul Pierce, a forward for the Nets, told The Los Angeles Times about Jason Collins. “It doesn’t matter your race, gender or sexuality because it’s about being part of a team and caring for one another. That’s all that matters at the end of the day.”
Jason Collins isn’t the only openly-gay athlete being buzzed about. Michael Sam, a potential NFL draft, has also announced that he is gay.
