CBS will air eight NFL Thursday Night Football games during the 2014 season. If all goes well, the deal could be extended to allow CBS to air more NFL games. Comcast’s (CMCSA[4]) NBC, Disney’s (DIS[5]) ESPN, Fox (FOXA[6]) and Time Warner’s (TWX[7]) Turner Broadcasting all put in bids for the Thursday night football games, reports CNN Money.

“The NFL is the most powerful programming in television,” Sean McManus, chairman for CBS Sports, told Sports Illustrated[8]. “To add a primetime NFL package to our successful Sunday AFC package further strengthens our position in the sports marketplace.”

The deal to acquire the eight NFL Thursday Night Football games was estimated to be worth $250 million, Sports Illustrated notes.

CBS stock was up 2% as of Thursday afternoon.
