Uwingu, a group of space experts that includes NASA veterans, has a project that allows people to name craters on Mars for as little as $5.
The Unwingu project is designed to help raise money that can be used as grants for space researchers, educators and other projects. The organization allows paying contributors to name one of the 500,000 largest craters on Mars.
Naming a crater starts at $5 and gets more expensive depending on the crater’s size. Uwingu is also working to develop a zoning and address system for the planet.
Several people have already named Mars craters. Some of these people name craters after themselves or family members, but others get a little more creative and goofy.
Here are five examples of goofy or creative Mars crater names.
- Sarah’s large hole in the ground
- Happys Fluffy Golden Rustie Crater
- The Garden of Dazee
- Techno Manifesto
- America the Beautiful
