Frozen gained the title of highest-grossing animated film when it reached $1.072 billion worldwide after its opening weekend in Japan. This knocked Toy Story 3, which grossed $1.063 billion in 2010, out of the number one spot. This makes Frozen the highest-grossing animated film if inflation isn’t taken into account, reports The Los Angeles Times.
However, if the amount grossed by Toy Story 3 is adjusted for inflation, then the film grossed $1.133 billion. This means that Frozen still has a little way to go to beat the previous record holder.
Frozen still has a chance to take the top spot for highest-grossing animated film if inflation is adjusted as it’s still playing in theaters in 36 countries, the L.A. Times notes.
Frozen also won two Oscar Awards in 2014. One of the awards was for Best Animated Feature Film and the other was for Let It Go, which won Best Original Song.
