Google Buys the Now-Defunct Green Throttle Games

Green Throttle Games is no longer making waves in the gaming industry but Google (GOOG[1]) is looking to change this.

The tech giant has purchased[2] the small company in a move that will potentially see the company develop a branded set-top box. Green Throttle Games was launched in 2012 as part of a partnership between Guitar Hero’s Charles Huang and Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend.

The tech company eventually earned $6 million in funding and developed the Atlas controller which is compatible with the Android Arena app. However, Green Throttle Games released the controller relatively late as the Arena app shut down about a year after the release of the Atlas controller.

Crowley and Townsend will join Google moving forward and Huang will continue to run Green Throttle Games as he owns the rights to the business.

GOOG stock is up about 0.5% Wednesday.
