SolarCity (SCTY) and Best Buy (BBY) are teaming up to bring solar energy to U.S. consumers.
The solar panel installer has placed representatives in about 35 California Best Buy stores as well as 15 shops in Arizona, Oregon, New York and Hawaii. SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive said that many Best Buy appliances use a lot of electricity and solar energy could help reduce energy consumption.
“The services we offer, it tends to be a conversational sale,” he said. “Meaning most people don’t understand the value proposition until they spend two or three minutes listening to it, and the value proposition is cheaper, cleaner energy.”
Each store will feature three SolarCity employees who will tell customers how much money and energy they can save with solar panels in their homes. The company is also offering $100 Best Buy gift cards to consumers who sign up for solar service before Earth Day.
SCTY stock is up about 6.3% Wednesday. BBY stock is down close to 1%.
