His face is well known to TV viewers for numerous infomercials about health, weight-loss and money tips. Now, Kevin Trudeau will be going to jail.
On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Guzman handed Kevin Trudeau a 10-year prison sentence. Kevin Trudeau was found guilty of criminal contempt for creating misleading TV infomercials in violation of a 2004 federal court that forbade him making misleading TV spots, CNN notes.
The earlier court order was part of a settlement of claims arising from a variety of infomercials that Kevin Trudeau made touting various products.
In November, a jury found him guilty of violating the 2004 court order by appearing in several infomercials in 2006 and 2007.
Kevin Trudeau has remained in federal custody since November. His attorney says he plans to appeal.
Judge Guzman accused Kevin Trudeau of being an “unrepentant, untiring and uncontrollable huckster” who had been engaged in fraud for three decades. He said that Kevin Trudeau had been trying to “cheat others for his own personal gain” since he was 25 years old.
