Atlanta Lands Major League Soccer Team for 2017

Atlanta is bringing a Major League Soccer franchise[1] to the city in 2017.

Atlanta[2]Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber and city mayor Kasim Reed have scheduled a news conference for 5 p.m. They will discuss the soccer franchise that is coming to the Georgia city which will begin playing in the league in 2017.

The Georgia Dome will be torn down and replaced in 2017 with a state-of-the-art, $1 billion open-air stadium with a retractable roof where the MLS team will play. “We are excited about an historic day for Atlanta sports,” Major League Soccer spokesman Dan Courtemanche said.

The Atlanta franchise will be the 22nd Major League Soccer team.
