Comcast saw earnings increase by 13.7% to $17.4 billion in the first quarter of 2014. Earnings per share in 2014’s first quarter were up to 71 cents. This is a 31.5% increase from 2013’s first quarter earnings per share of 54 cents.
The media company’s strong earnings partially came from NBC’s coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics generated $1.1 billion of revenue for the company.
The company also saw operating cash flow, operating income capital expenditures increase. Free cash flow in the first quarter of 2014 was down 10% from 2013’s first quarter. This is partially due to the extra cost of covering the Sochi Olympics.
