Gas Fireplace Recall Due to Explosion Hazard

Hussong Manufacturing is recalling a number of gas fireplaces and fireplace inserts that use a American Flame brand main control modules.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says that consumers who own certain models of Kozy Heat Fireplaces, Ambiance Fireplaces and Stellar Hearth Products should stop using the devices and contact the manufacturer or the dealer from which the unit was purchased. Regulators say that main control modules in the fireplaces may permit the release of gas. If gas builds up in near the fireplace burners, an explosion can result. The defective part will be replaced without charge.

The gas fireplace recall covers 22 models sold under the three brand names. The models affected by the gas fireplace recall were manufactured between October 2009 and April 2013. Nine reports of gas releases and explosions have been received. Minor property damage and injuries have been reported.

Consumers can determine whether their model is included in the gas fireplace recall by checking the model number and manufacture data, which are printed on testing labels next to the fireplaces’ inserts and gas valves.

More detail on the gas fireplace recall can be found on the CPSC’s website.
