Have you ever wondered why is it called Good Friday?
Today is the day that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ and the word “good” might not mean what you think it means. The Oxford English Dictionary and most linguists would agree that the word good used to mean holy.
Good Friday essentially means holy Friday despite what many may think. This makes more sense when you think of the name of the day in other languages such as Spanish in which it roughly translates to “Sacred Friday.”
Others believe that the word Good Friday comes from the fact that today was good because it led to Jesus Christ’s eventual resurrection. Meanwhile others think that the word “good” comes from God and today is God’s Friday.
