Jetblue (JBLU) has announced that it fly a new route from Pittsburgh with nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale.

“We are always evaluating multiple destinations and considering new ones,” JetBlue spokesman Loren Duran says to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Pittsburgh customers have expressed strong interest and intent to support a (the) route. The community will need to support this route in order to show its viability and keep it on our schedule.”

JetBlue also flies to Boston, so the new route will be the second round-trip flight from Pittsburgh.

JetBlue previously flew from the city to New York, though cut the route in 2012 after it deemed it unprofitable.

Southwest also flies from Pittsburgh to Fort Lauderdale non-stop, but according to its scheduling, that service will convert to connecting-only in August.

“Pittsburghers have asked for a nonstop, year-round connection to Florida,” JetBlue president Robin Hayes says in a statement. “With the introduction of this service, customers will not only save time, but also save money as this is traditionally a high-fare route. Besides access to South Florida, this will also meet the great demand for travels onwards to the Caribbean and Latin America.”

JetBlue flies to 26 destinations from Fort Lauderdale.
