JetBlue Passengers Smell Smoke, Forcing Flight to Return After Takeoff

Passengers on a JetBlue (JBLU) flight had a scare on Monday evening.

The JetBlue plane had departed from Jamaica’s Norman Manley International Airport bound for Fort Lauderdale. Shortly after the JetBlue plane took off, people on board to jet complained that they smelled smoke. The JetBlue plane immediately returned to the airport where the jet was evacuated, the Associated Press notes.

A report in a local newspaper indicated that six people were injured while evacuating the plane after it had returned to the airport. On its website, JetBlue said that the people were undergoing medical evaluation for unspecified reasons. The plane was inspected by local fire officials.

The JetBlue flight was carrying 98 passengers.

JBLU stock climbed modestly in Tuesday morning trading. JetBlue stock has gained more than 25% over the past year.
