Joan Rivers has no plans to apologize over a joke she made about the kidnapped victims of Ariel Castro during a Today show appearance.
During her Today show appearance, Joan Rivers joked that she had less space in her daughter’s guest room than Ohio Castro victims Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus had in the man’s basement. She also went on to say that the girls got to live rent free for more than a decade. Lawyers for the two victims released a statement saying that Rivers had reached a “new low” with her comments, reports Us Magazine.
Joan Rivers said that the Castro kidnap victims came out of the event with a book deal and that neither of them is in a psych ward. She also said the women are doing just fine and that she wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the on Dancing with the Stars, The Star-Ledger notes.
“I know what those girls went through. It was a little, stupid joke,” Joan Rivers told Us Magazine. “There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down. Calm fucking down. I’m a comedienne. They’re free, so let’s move on.”
