Justin Moore, 30, was announced as the winner at the ACM Awards ceremony by Florida Georgia Line. After a few jokes, Moore started thanking people for the award. He began to cry when thanking his wife and daughters, reports The Boot.

The New Artist of the Year award is voted on by fans to determine a winner. There was some controversy surrounding Justin Moore’s win at the ACM Awards ceremony. This stems from the fact that he actually released his first single several years ago. Other new artist that were up for the award were Brett Eldredge and Kip Moore, The Boot notes.

“Kip and Brett have both been doing this as long as me,” Moore told CMT.com. “I just got my record deal first, so maybe I had a little bit of a head start.”
