This marks the first time that Netflix has singed what is called a “writer-producer deal.” The deal with Hurwitz means that another comedy is likely on the way. The video streaming service previously invested in Hurwitz’s work when it ordered a new season of Arrested Development years after it had been cancelled by Fox, reports CNN.
The announcement that Hurwitz will be making series for Netflix doesn’t include a new season of Arrested Development. This deal will focus on bringing brand news series to the video streaming service and is set to last for multiple years, CNN notes.
“We are lucky to be in business with Mitch Hurwitz, a true genius with one of the most distinctive voices in comedy today,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Mitch’s inventive approach to Arrested Development — one of the top TV comedies of this generation — was ahead of its time, and we’re fortunate to have him on our team.”
