Target will increase the number of “natural, organic and sustainable” items offered to consumers at its stores. Target will include the new products under a category dubbed “Made to Matter — Handpicked by Target” over the next several months. Target cited customer surveys showing that 97% of TGT store visitors indicated that they purchase natural or organic products, the New York Times notes.
To meet that demand, Target will add 120 natural and organic products to its store shelves. TGT has been planning to expand its natural and organic product offerings since 2012.
Some of the new natural or organic products will be new versions of existing products. TGT will have the exclusive right to sell some products for a minimum of six months.
TGT stock sank modestly in Thursday morning trading. TGT shares have fallen more than 10% over the past year.
