The celebrity chef has received plenty of backlash for closing the restaurant without giving notice to its employees. A spokesman for the Deen family said that they closed the restaurant “to explore development options for the waterfront property on which the restaurant is located.”

The closing of Uncle Bubba’s comes after a workplace discrimination lawsuit against Paula Deen after she admitted to using a racial slur. The restaurant was co-owned by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers for a decade.
