Apple (AAPL) devices in Australia are being hijacked digitally and held for ransom.
The Age broke out the news which stemmed from a series of tweets reporting these hijackings. iPhone users got a message that said ‘Find My iPhone” followed by a message notifying them that their phone had been hacked by “Oleg Pliss.”
In one case, the hackers asked a Sydney woman for $50 to be sent to a PayPal account in return for unlocking her phone. Another user received a message demanding a PayPal payment of $100 USD/EUR to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
There were also cases of other Apple devices being hijacked including iPads and Macs.
