Basic materials stocks fell on Wall Street on Thursday morning, down 0.7%.

More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.6%, the Nasdaq declined 0.6% and the S&P 500 was down 0.6%.

Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:

• Valhi Inc (VHI[1]): VHI stock is up 1.1%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.

• Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM[2]): HBM stock is up 0.8% to $9.17, near the 52-week high of $9.26.

• Gold Fields Ltd (GFI[3]): GFI stock is up 0.8% today.

• Steel Dynamics (STLD[4]): STLD stock is up 0.7% today.

• Rio Tinto Plc (RIO[5]): RIO stock is up 0.7% today.

• Yamana Gold (AUY[6]): AUY stock is up 0.5% today.

• Bhp Billiton Plc (BBL[7]): BBL stock is up 0.6% to $67.03, near the 52-week high of $67.15.

• International Paper Company (IP[8]): IP stock is up 0.5% today.

• New Gold Inc (NGD[9]): NGD stock is up 0.4% today.

• National Steel Corp (SID[10]): SID stock is up 0.2%, marking the fifth consecutive day the stock has increased.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• Trex Company (TREX[11]): TREX stock is down 4.5% to a new 52-week low of $30.51.

• Chemtura Corp (CHMT[12]): CHMT stock is down 2.8%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Mueller Water Products (MWA[13]): MWA stock is down 2.3%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• RBC Bearings Inc (ROLL[14]): ROLL stock is down 2.7%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Balchem Corp (BCPC[15]): BCPC stock is down 2.5%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Raven Industries (RAVN[16]): RAVN stock is down 2.4%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Polyone Corp (POL[17]): POL stock is down 2.6%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Sociedad Quimica Y Minera S.A. (SQM[18]): SQM stock is down 2.8% today.

• Minerals Technologies Inc (MTX[19]): MTX stock is down 2.1% today.
