Facebook Anonymous Login: How It Works

Facebook (FB[1]) CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new way to log in to apps[2] with the social media website on Wednesday.

facebook-anonymous-login-fb-stock[3]Zuckerberg announced that Facebook was testing an Anonymous Login feature. This new feature will allow users on the social media website to log in to apps without sharing their information with them. The Anonymous Login button is black instead of blue and the feature allows users to test out apps without giving away personal information, reports CNET.

Using the Anonymous Login feature doesn’t grant users privacy from Facebook. The social media website will still be able to see everything users do that is connected to their accounts. This means that the company can better target ads based on where people use their accounts. This in turn makes the social media company more valuable as a data broker, Forbes[4] notes.

Zuckerberg also announced a new feature for advertisers called Audience Network. Audience Network works by letting advertisers move their ads to apps that choose to sign up for the service. Advetisers using Audience Network will be able to use Facebook’s targeting and measurement tools, reports CNET.

FB shares were up 4% as of Thursday afternoon.
