Google (GOOG[1]), announced on Tuesday[2], that Google Glass is now available in American for as long as supplies last.

The Google Glass models being sold are the Explorer Editions. These are the models that are used by beta testers. Google says that the reason it’s allowing more people to buy Glass is because it wants to do a more open beta. The hardware and software of Glass are still unfinished and will set customers back $1,500, reports Wall Street Journal.

Those who don’t want to shell out $1,500 for  Google Glass will likely be more inclined to wait for a more expansive release. The price of Glass is estimated to be somewhere between $250 to $600[4] when it gets a widespread release.

According to the Huffington Post[5], Google Glass only costs around $150 to make. This makes the $1,500 price tag seem more than a bit steep. However, it’s possible that Google is keeping Glass as such a high price to help fund research in creating the product. It could also be that the high price is designed to help Google avoid filling lots of Glass orders while the product is still in its beta.
