A new Google (GOOG[1]) tablet that is reportedly a part of Project Tango and will have the ability to capture 3D images[2] is on the way.

These cameras will work with depth senors and image processing software to create 3D images. These features could be used to map a 3D environment without the aid of additional equipment, CNET notes.

One issue that the Google tablet could face is a lack of programmers with 3D knowledge. Many smartphone programmers are comfortable building apps for less powerful machines, which means that this new tablet may be too much for them, reports PC Magazine[4].

Even though Project Tango hasn’t gotten an official release, people are already speculating what could be done with it[5]. The new features could allow for a new type of mobile gaming or detailed directions with 3D maps. It’s also possible that some elements of Project Tango could make it to Google Glass.

The new Google tablets will star being manufactured next month. The first run will include 4,000 prototype units, CNET notes.

GOOG stock was up slightly as of Friday morning.
