The hummus recall was started over concerns that it may have Listeria monocytogenes in it. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious infections. These infections can be fatal to children, the elderly and people with weak immune system. It can also cause pregnant women to have miscarriages and stillbirths.

No illnesses have been reported and the possible contamination was discovered in a product tested by the Texas Department of Health. The hummus recall was voluntary and Lansal has alerted all retail locations of it.
