Jameis Winston, a Florida State University quarterback that has won a Heisman trophy, was caught shoplifting crab legs on Tuesday.
Winston was caught shoplifting crab legs by a Publix employee who saw him leave without paying. The employee initially thought the quarterback was leaving to get a cart. When Winston failed to return, the employee reported the theft, reports the Miami Herald.
Winston was approached by police at his apartment three hours after he was seen shoplifting crab legs. Police said that Winston was cooperative and that he claimed to have forgotten to pay for the food. The quarterback wasn’t arrested, but he will have to attened a pre-trial program, pay a $20 fine and do community service, the Miami Herald notes.
Winston was suspended form FSU’s baseball team on Wednesday after shoplifting crab legs. The baseball team’s coach said that he was confident that Winston will serve his hours of community service. The university’s football coached agreed with the actions taken by the baseball coach, reports CNN.
