Nexium OTC: Popular Pill Now Available Without Prescription

The Pfizer version is cheaper than the original


Pfizer (PFE) has released an over-the-counter version of Nexium (esomeprazole).

NexiumNexium is a drug for frequent and severe heartburn and you can now get it without a prescription at your local pharmacy or online at Pfizer’s over-the-counter version of the drug comes in packs of 12, 24 or 42 pills and each pill contains a 20 mg dose of esomeprazole.

Prescription Nexium is significantly more expensive than the nonprescription version with the first costing at least $260 a month and the latter selling for $15 to $30 per pack. The prescription version of the drug will continue to be available in 20 mg and 40 mg strengths.

PFE stock is selling for $29.61 on Wednesday.
