The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a Star Wars bionic arm.
The DEKA arm is a prosthetic limb for amputees that’s nicknamed “Luke” after Luke Skywalker who lost his hand and had to get a prosthetic one during a light-saber battle. The DEKA project has taken over eight years of researchers and testing but the FDA has finally approved it.
This impressive Star Wars bionic arm runs on battery and it can perform delicate motions including zipping up a coat and unlocking a door. The DEKA arm was reviewed by the FDA in a study with 36 amputees and 90% performed motions that they were not able to with their current prosthesis.
