Bad news for an Apple (AAPL) app: Users and news sites say the Apple Podcasts app has been consistently crashing for many users, rendering it useless.

Apple podcasts appUsers and news sites confirm that the Apple podcasts app crashes after it’s launched on devices running iOS 7.1.1 and devices with iOS 8 beta 2.

After opening, the app will crash just moments after it starts.

The Apple Podcasts app version 2.1.2 was last updated May 29 — the problems were first reported yesterday.

It’s so far unclear why the app continues to crash.

Via MacRumors:

Podcasts is one of Apple’s most poorly rated apps and has been widely criticized for performance issues, with users complaining about syncing problems, podcasts being deleted, and more. Apple attempted to resolve some of these issues with Podcasts version 2.1, which introduced improved episode browsing, Siri integration, and syncing fixes, but the app continues to have a two star rating in the App Store.

Users are reporting that for some, the crashing appears to have abated, but some of the problems continue to be reported as of this morning.
