Amazon (AMZN) Pronounces Its Mayday Button a Big Success

According to Amazon (AMZN[1]), users of its Kindle Fire HDX tablets are in love with its Mayday button feature[2].

[3]In a statement released on Friday, Amazon said that the Mayday button — which puts Kindle tablet users in touch with round-the-clock tech support representatives — “is now the most popular way for Fire HDX customers to contact customer service.”

Amazon said that users who tap the Mayday button receive a response from tech support in an average of 9.75 seconds. “75% of customer contacts for Fire HDX now come via the Mayday button,” said Scott Brown, Director, Amazon Customer Service.

In addition to fielding routine technical questions from Kindle Fire HDX tablet owners, Amazon says its Mayday button has also generated a number “unusual” requests for help. That includes assisting an Angry Birds player to make it to the next level in the game, singing Happy Birthday to a user who had just received her tablet as a gift, and receiving marriage and date requests from exuberant tablet owners.

Amazon noted that it has received Mayday button assistance requests from Kindle Fire HDX users in a number of countries outside North America, including Australia, Bolivia, Egypt, Kenya, St. Lucia and Venezuela.

In Friday trading, Amazon stock moved modestly higher. AMZN stock closed at $325.91 per share on Thursday.
