Basic materials stocks finished up 0.8% on Wall Street today.

More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5%, the Nasdaq was up 0.6% and the S&P 500 climbed 0.5%.

Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:

• Balchem Corp (BCPC[1]): BCPC stock is up 2.8% today.

• Kapstone Paper and Packaging Corp (KS[2]): KS stock is up 2.6% today.

• Compass Minerals Intl Inc (CMP[3]): CMP stock is up 2.2% to a new 52-week high of $95.30.

• Worthington Industries (WOR[4]): WOR stock is up 2.1% today.

• Sun Hydraulics Corp (SNHY[5]): SNHY stock is up 2.1% today.

• Kronos Worldwide Inc (KRO[6]): KRO stock is up 1.8% today.

• Schweitzer-Mauduit International (SWM[7]): SWM stock is up 1.8% today.

• Olin Corp (OLN[8]): OLN stock is up 1.7% today.

• Georgia Gulf Corp (AXLL[9]): AXLL stock is up 1.7% today.

• Om Group (OMG[10]): OMG stock is up 1.7%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has increased.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• Grupo Simec S.A. De C.V. (SIM[11]): SIM stock is down 2.2% today.

• Copene-Petroquimica Do Nordeste (BAK[12]): BAK stock is down 1.4%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Cameco Corp (CCJ[13]): CCJ stock is down 1.1% today.

• Gerdau S.A. (GGB[14]): GGB stock is down 0.8% today.

• Westlake Chemical Corp (WLK[15]): WLK stock is down 0.6%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Kinross Gold Corp (KGC[16]): KGC stock is down 0.5%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• FMC Corp (FMC[17]): FMC stock is down 0.5%, marking the eighth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc (POT[18]): POT stock is down 0.4%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Mrc Global Inc (MRC[19]): MRC stock is down 0.4% today.
