Casey Kasem Taken Off Life Support

Casey Kasem, the former host of American Top 40 and voice of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, has been taken off of life support.

A health directive left by Casey Kasem, 82, states that he doesn’t wish to have his life extended if it’s only in a biological sense. Kasem suffers from Lewy body dementia. He will no longer be given medications, food or water, reports the Washington Post.

Jean Kasem, Casey Kasem’s wife, has objected to taking her husband off of life support. However, the decision isn’t her’s as one of Kasem’s daughters has been named his temporary conservator. Jean has had an estranged relationship with Kasem’s daughters from another marriage, but they have offered to let her come stay with him, the Washington Post notes.

Casey Kasem went missing last month when his wife took him away without telling anyone where they went. A court order to find Kasem was approved and he was eventually discovered in Washington. It was around this time that Kerri Kasem, one of Casey Kasem’s daughter from his previous marriage, was named as her father’s temporary conservator.
