DWA: Dragon 2 Disappointment Takes Bite Out of DreamWorks Stock

DreamWorks (DWA) saw its stock plummet on Monday following a disappointing opening weekend for How to Train Your Dragon 2.

DreamWorks Animation DWA 185 150x150 DWA: Dragon 2 Disappointment Takes Bite Out of DreamWorks Stock The movie made $50 million in its opening weekend in the U.S., $10 million shy of several analysts’ $60 million estimate. How to Train Your Dragon 2 made an additional $24.8 million internationally but the film’s opening weekend was still deemed a disappointment.

The film has an estimated budget of about $145 million and it looks like the studio is banking on Dragon 2 to get back on track. How to Train Your Dragon — released in 2010 — grossed over $215 million in the U.S. and close to $500 million overall.

DWA stock is down about 10.7% Monday afternoon.
