Weluree Ditsayabut, Miss Universe Thailand, has given up her title after just one month.
Ditsayabut gave up the title of Miss Universe Thailand over comments she made prior to earning the title. The comments made by Ditsayabut were against “red shirt” activist, who she claimed should all be executed, reports NBC News.
The comments made by Ditsayabut were noticed by several people and she was criticized for her comments on social media websites, such as Twitter (TWTR) and Facebook (FB). Ditsayabut claims she gave up the title of Miss Universe Thailand to avoid the criticism and reduce her mother’s stress. It’s unknown if the first runner up from the contest will take her place and title, NBC news notes.
“At first, my family was happy for me when I was crowned,” the former Miss Universe Thailand told The Phuket News. “But there’s no more happiness following waves of criticism from the society.”
America recently crowned Miss USA. The winner of the title is Nia Sanchez from Nevada.
