In a move to shine the spotlight on wages, Walmart (WMT[1]) employees will hold strikes today in 20 cities across the U.S. today.

Protestors want the raises of associates raised to $25,000 a year.

The strikers also want Walmart to stop retaliating against workers who chose to go on strike.

In California, a judge is reviewing whether Walmart illegally fired workers who took part in strikes in 2012 and 2013.

For its part, Walmart contends that it acted within the law.

On Monday, workers held a mini vigil outside of the home of a board chairman Rob Walton in Phoenix.

“I am trying to tell Wal-Mart that they should not retaliate against workers, and that they need to raise wages and respect us,” Bene’t Holmes, a 25 year old mother earning $8.75 an hour at a Chicago-area store, told CNN[3].

Walmart has no plans to raise wages and insists the strikes are nothing more than the usual goings-on during these meetings.

“It’s not unusual to see the same union group stage events around our shareholders meeting,” a spokesman to CNN. “There’s also a reason that the associates who are taking part in the demonstrations work for us. They know what a good job is.”

WMT stock is down 2% year to date.
