FIFA placed a nine-game ban and four-month suspension from soccer activities on Luis Suarez after he bit Giorgio Chiellini, defender for Italy. Suarez will also have to pay a fine of $112,000. He can appeal the fine, but his ban from games and other soccer activities goes into effect immediately, The New York Times notes.

“The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014,” FIFA told CNN[3]. “The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches.”

This isn’t the first time that Luis Suarez has been banned from games for biting. In 2010, the soccer player bit an opponent while playing for the Dutch team Ajax. This earned him a seven-game ban. He also got a 10-game ban in 2013 for biting another player, reports NYT.
