Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing’s (TSM) time as Apple’s (AAPL) chip maker may be short lived.

aapl-apple-tsm-taiwan-semiconductor-manufacturingA report issued by analyst Michael Liu of KGI Securities claims that Apple will likely switch to getting the majority of its smartphone chips from Samsung (SSNLF) instead of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing in the later half of 2015. The KGI Securities report also claim that Qualcomm (QCOM) will likely switch to Samsung from TSM, reports Reuters.

George Chang, an analyst for Yuanta Securities, claims that the report is all speculation. He also says that it’s much to early to say anything about the Apple future plans as the iPhone 6 hasn’t even been released yet, A Qualcomm representative in China refused to comment on the report made by the KGI Securities analyst, Reuters notes.

If the report that Apple will switch back to Samsung for the chips is true, it means that the company will likely work on the A9 chip. The A8 chip is the one being made by Taiwan Semiconductor for the iPhone 6.

AAPL shares were down 1% as of  noon Thursday.

TSM shares were down 2% as of noon Thursday.
