Basic materials stocks rose 0.3% on Wall Street today.

More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4%, the Nasdaq was up 0.7% and the S&P 500 pushed 0.4% higher.

Some of the biggest gainers among basic materials stocks include:

• Hecla Mining Company (HL[1]): HL stock is up 3.3% today.

• Kinross Gold Corp (KGC[2]): KGC stock is up 3.1% today.

• Yamana Gold (AUY[3]): AUY stock is up 2.2% today.

• Royal Gold (RGLD[4]): RGLD stock is up 2.1% today.

• Aurico Gold Inc (AUQ[5]): AUQ stock is up 1.9% today and up 21.8% in the last month.

• Goldcorp Inc (GG[6]): GG stock is up 1.7% today and up 22.9% in the last month.

• Pan American Silver (PAAS[7]): PAAS stock is up 1.7% to a new 52-week high of $15.62.

• International Paper Company (IP[8]): IP stock is up 1.6% today.

• Westlake Chemical Corp (WLK[9]): WLK stock is up 1.4% today.

• Globe Specialty Metals Inc (GSM[10]): GSM stock is up 1.4% today.

Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:

• Simpson Manufacturing Company (SSD[11]): SSD stock is down 1.8%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Minerals Technologies Inc (MTX[12]): MTX stock is down 1.3%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Compass Minerals Intl Inc (CMP[13]): CMP stock is down 1.2% today.

• Innophos Holdings (IPHS[14]): IPHS stock is down 1.1%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Innospec Inc (IOSP[15]): IOSP stock is down 1.0%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Greif Bros. Corp (GEF.B[16]): GEF.B stock is down 1.0% today.

• AK Steel Holding Corp (AKS[17]): AKS stock is down 1.0% today.

• Monsanto Company (MON[18]): MON stock is down 0.9%, marking the fourth consecutive day the stock has decreased.

• Actuant Corp (ATU[19]): ATU stock is down 0.9%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has decreased.
