Google (GOOG) just joined the smartwatch race with the LG G Watch.
The gadget is now available for pre-sale in the U.S. and it will soon be available in close to 30 countries. Here are five things you should know about the LG G Watch:
- The smartwatch has a underwhelming design that consists of a cheap rubber wristband and a black box.
- The LG G Watch has a decent 1.65-inch IPS LCD display. However, it’s almost impossible to see the display in the sunlight.
- The watch needs to be charged every day but it does have a pretty good battery life that lasts through the day.
- The LG G Watch mimics the function of smartphones by using notifications to inform you of emails, chats and more by vibrating.
- The Google Play Store will start shipping out the smartwatch — which costs $229 — by July 11 for U.S. users. The gadget will eventually be available in a total of 27 countries. You can also get the LG G Watch for cheaper through an exclusive AT&T (T) deal when you buy three or more products.
GOOG stock is down about 2% Tuesday afternoon. T stock is up about 0.2%.
