Air pollution continues to be a problem in China that causes foreign workers to seek employment elsewhere. Coca-Cola has responded to this problem by offering its expat staff an additional 15% of their base pay.
The company is calling the package an “environmental hardship allowance” which serves the purpose of compensating employees from potential health risks. The hazard pay became effective “recently,” according to the company.
KO stock is up about 1% Friday afternoon with shares selling at about $42.44.
