Marvel Comics Alert: Thor Will Now Be a Woman!

Marvel Comics — owned by Disney (DIS[1]) — has announced that Thor will now be a woman[2].

[3]The publisher has made it clear that the current male holder of the mighty uru hammer will no longer be worthy of the weapon and a woman will replace him as the new Thor.

The inscription on the hammer makes it clear that, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Marvel Comics decided to update this concept and give an intrepid woman the chance of yielding the weapon.

The publisher released a press release on the subject. Here’s an excerpt from the release:

This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR.

The Thor comic was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby in 1962.

DIS stock is down about 0.6% Tuesday afternoon.
