The storm is on its way out of Florida and headed north towards North Carolina. Tropical storm Arthur was about 100 miles east of Cape Canaveral at 2 p.m. ET today and it is moving at about 7 mph with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph.

North Carolina residents may have to celebrate indoors this year as the storm is gaining steam and quickly becoming a Category 1 hurricane, according to a National Hurricane Center spokesman. State Governor Pat McCrory has warned residents of tropical storm Arthur, saying that safety should be the highest priority this weekend.

A warning has been issued from Little River Inlet, N.C. to the border between North Carolina and Virginia.
