TWTR: Twitter ‘Buy Now’ Button Spotted in Tweets

“Buy Now” buttons have been popping up on Twitter (TWTR[1]) as of Monday[2].

twtr-twitter-4[3]Tweets with the Buy Now button added to them appeared on posts linking back to Fancy. Fancy is an online store that pitched a connection to the website earlier this year. Neither Twitter nor Fancy has commented on the Buy Now buttons, reports Re/code.

The Buy Now buttons are currently only appearing on Twitter’s mobile app and clicking on them doesn’t do anything. One person told Re/code that they clicked on the button early on Monday and were taken to the item’s page on Fancy. The technology reporting website was unable to replicate these results.

The release of the Buy Now button may have been an accident, or it could have been an experiment by Twitter. This wouldn’t be the first time that the social media website silently tested out new features. The website recently allowed a small number of users to test new features that allowed them to ReTweet with a comment[4] and share their Tweets to WhatsApp[5].
