Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen

Twice a year, the Chair of the Federal Reserve — in this case, Janet Yellen — parades down towards Capitol Hill to testify on monetary policy. Each time, there’s a series of prepared remarks (which is interesting) and then Congress/Senate gets to ask a series of questions (not so interesting). However, this year the question and answer session was a bit more interesting than usual, with Yellen actually giving real opinions on the economy. That included some hawkish moments. Here’s the recap from the Real Time Economics Team at the Wall Street Journal about just what Yellen said.

Wolf Street (Wolf Richter): Are Yellen’s remarks really a big fat warning to investors?

New York Post (Richard Morgan): Wall Street doesn’t particularly like Ms. Yellen’s “off-the-cuff” comments.

Bloomberg (Yoshiaki Nohara and Yuko Takeo): Is the Yen trade done? Japan’s biggest ETFs — the WisdomTree Japan Hedged Equity Fund (DXJ) and iShares MSCI Japan ETF (EWJ) — tell the story.

US News & World Report (Daniel Solin): Want to profit from the coming correction? Sit back and do nothing. Seriously.

Bespoke Investment Group Blog (Staff): Still looking for yield? Look outside the U.S.

BusinessWeek (Carol Matlack): We’re seeing cracks in the BRICs. They’re too big to succeed together.

FT Alphaville (David Keohane): Speaking of the BRICs, can China dial down its economy safely?

Focus On Funds/Barons (Brendan Conway): The junior gold miners are wining, but not because of gold prices. Hint: It’s location, location, location.

Paste (Jim Vorel): Like Craft Beer? Here’s the top ten brews for 2014. Quaff them with abandon.
