This week, commercial banking, aerospace and defense, life science, biotechnology and auto parts are the best sectors on the Portfolio Grader[1] database.
Commercial banking stands out with 100% of the sector’s stocks (5 out of 5) rating a “buy”. Near the top of their sector, Pacific Capital Bancorp (PCBC[2]) and StellarOne Corporation (STEL[3]) have A ratings. Citizens Republic Bancorp (CRBC[4]) also gets a B.
The aerospace and defense sector’s track record is proving one of the best with 74% of its stocks (31 out of 42) rating a “buy”. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII[5]), Alliant Techsystem (ATK[6]) and TASER International, Inc. (TASR[7]) are lifting the sector overall, each earning a high grade of A. Over the last 12 months, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. is the best performer in this sector, with a 224.8% increase.
Life science is thriving this week with 71% of stocks in the sector (17 out of 24) currently rating a “buy”. Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR (WX[8]), Covance (CVD[9]) and Illumina, Inc. (ILMN[10]) are all currently earning A’s. The best performer in this sector is Wuxi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. Sponsored ADR, which saw its price rise 242.2% in the last 12 months.
Biotechnology is excelling, with 71% of stocks in the sector (65 out of 92) rating a “buy”. Out of the biotechnology stocks, Gentium S.p.A. Sponsored ADR (GENT[11]), Repligen Corporation (RGEN[12]) and Insys Therapeutics, Inc. (INSY[13]) are out front with A’s. Repligen Corporation is the best performer in this sector, with a 504.5% increase in the last 12 months.
The auto parts sector is thriving on Portfolio Grader this week, with 68% of its stocks (17 out of 25) currently rating a “buy”. Magna International (MGA[14]), Dorman Products, Inc. (DORM[15]) and Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. (CPS[16]) are paving the way for the sector with A grades. Magna International is performing the best overall in the sector, with a 258.1% increase from 12 months ago.
