A collection of over 900 authors[1] have signed an open letter in protest of Amazon (AMZN[2]).

The open letter comes from Douglas Preston. Preston is a best-selling author that publishes his work through Hachette. His letter, which will appear in The New York Times on Sunday, asks readers to contact Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and tell him to stop using writers as hostages in its feud with Hachette, reports The New York Times.

The collection of authors that have signed the open letter in protest of Amazon’s practices includes Stephen King, Lemony Snicket, Michael Lewis, Nora Roberts and more. Authors that have signed the letter don’t just come from Hachette, but are also under many other publishers, NYT notes.

“It seems to me that continuing business as usual while negotiations take place is a good idea. It’s a sign of good faith,” Sophie Hannah, a British writer who signed the open letter to Amazon, told The Guardian[4]. “‘Look how great things are and can remain’ sends a jollier and more helpful message than ‘Look how bad things might get.'”
